'It's like they never miss a pass': The Swans' Ethan Galbraith continues clash with Manchester City.

Ethan Galbraith can't help but smile as he recalls the dramatic closing stages of Swansea's epic comeback triumph against Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup. The encounter wrapped up with Galbraith picking up a supporter's spectacles after the pitch-side pile-on.

As the match entered added time, Galbraith rattled the woodwork with a long-range shot from outside the box, and Cameron Burgess immediately hammered in the rebound before sprinting toward the crowd to celebrate, with fans swarming the players.

Extraordinary Turnaround

The result completed an extraordinary recovery given the Welsh side had been behind 2-0 during the second half. In the euphoria, there was some unintended consequences. The midfielder recalled, "There was a fan trying to get our attention and myself and Keysy [Josh Key] were thinking: 'What's he on about here?' Then we spotted the glasses. It was a funny incident putting them on. We are on the pitch as athletes but we're individuals, too, so to have a bit of craic with the fans is always good."

Manchester City Challenge

The result earned a fourth-round fixture at home against Pep Guardiola's side on Wednesday, a team Galbraith ran close at the same stage of the FA Cup with Leyton Orient in February. He had an excellent perspective when the underdogs took the lead in spectacular fashion, with Jamie Donley's first-time shot from about long distance going in via the crossbar and the Stefan Ortega. It feels criminal that it was deemed an own goal.

"You would have expected they would've awarded it to him for taking the effort on from that far out," says Galbraith, who began the game centrally before switching to right defensive wing after Orient changed tactics. That meant facing off against City's winger, with whom he exchanged jerseys, and the player was among the City players who paid tribute to the way the underdogs played positively.

Guardiola's System

"Physically they are exceptional but even the fundamentals and simple things, they can just perform consistently," Galbraith says. "It appears that they complete every delivery and they know how to control and take the sting out of a game. You can feel you're doing well and then abruptly they will just deliver a through ball through a line without you even noticing. You have to be switched on throughout of the game. It takes a resilient mindset and attention just to keep pace."

Welsh Transition

Swansea pushed to sign Galbraith in January and secured his signature to bring him in in the summer in a seven-figure transfer. He made a name as a crowd pleaser across two seasons at Orient and has quickly done the same in south Wales. At the London club he linked up again with Richie Wellens, who earlier gave Galbraith his initial sustained opportunity in first-team action on loan at his loan club from Manchester United. Then came a loan at fourth-tier Salford, before he permanently left Manchester United.

Development Path

"I was perhaps a bit naive going into senior level. I think numerous professionals would say under-23s football is completely distinct. Sometimes it appears possession is exchanged without serious challenge. There are limited physical contests. Once you start playing men's games you have to learn quickly."

International Recognition

He has shown that maturation for both domestically and internationally, excelling for the Green and White Army, who remain in contention for the World Cup next summer via the playoffs and for whom he has started the last several matches, including two matches fixtures against a football powerhouse. The ex-coach, Galbraith's previous international manager, gave him the supreme accolade, saying he was Northern Ireland's "little Iniesta or Xavi" given how he handles the football and his eye for a killer pass.

Humble Beginnings

This marks a remarkable path for the youngster from the local area in Glengormley, just outside the capital, who used to see his father, Stuart, also a engine room operator, play for a local club.

Red Devils Debut

His single match for Manchester United came in Central Asia in 2019, a Europa League trip to Astana, where they competed on an artificial pitch and the stadium roof was closed owing to temperatures of bitter cold. "That proved to be a extended travel and it was cold out there," he recalls, smiling. "The preceding week, the academy prospects worked out jointly, so that helped us acclimatise. Just to accompany the senior squad and earn some playing time at the end was amazing."

Moving On

How hard was it to depart Manchester United, the club he signed from his boyhood team aged 16? "It was fairly simple, because I arrived at the moment where I understood I wasn't going to make it at first-team level. I'm hugely grateful for the time I spent there but it got to the point where I felt I required a fresh start, join a smaller club and play men's football. Now I'm gradually progressing again."

Welsh Adaptation

It is the early part of the afternoon at the club's training ground but Galbraith has an appointment at the early evening: a driving theory test, another step towards getting on the road. Until recently to his new neighborhood, the 24-year-old was a constant rider in Swansea's so-called fun bus, a team vehicle driven by club employees, the drivers, which shuttles players to and from sessions and fixtures.

"It's myself the Portuguese player, Ronald, Malick Yalcouyé – the Swedish defender used to be in it but has begun using his own car. It's nice to interact with the lads but I'm hoping to be the next one out of the minibus and behind the wheel. The Portuguese player is known for his humor; he's constantly causing mischief."

Fan Interactions

When he represented Orient, Galbraith would blend in with followers on London's Central line after beginning his trip at his base. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
